WINS TOP SGIA AWARDS FOR BINDERS
When the best screen printers in the world competed in the Specialty Graphics Imaging Association's Golden Image/Andre Schellenberg competition in Las Vegas, American Thermoplastic Company stood out, winning the two top awards in the Ring and Catalog Binders category.
American Thermoplastic Company (ATC) won the awards for the best entry in both the Digital Printing and also the Single/Multicolor Screen-Printing sub-categories. Both winning binders were produced at the company's manufacturing facility in Pittsburgh, PA.
Steve Silberman, president of American Thermoplastic Company, commented that "Winning the top awards for both screen printing and digital printing of binders is quite an accomplishment. I am very proud of the work our team does for our customers and gratified their efforts have been recognized."
The Golden Image/Andre Schellenberg competition was conducted during the SGIA 2012 Convention & Exposition in Las Vegas in October. More than 90 companies from around the world entered the competition, submitting over 600 entries in 41 different categories. The entries were evaluated by a team of judges selected from the association's international membership.
"The judges had a very difficult time this year, not only because of the sheer volume of entries, but also because of the overall quality of the work," said Johnny Shell, Vice President, Technical Services for the SGIA. Shell added that the Golden Image/Andre Schellenberg is a technical competition, excluding aesthetic issues from the judging process. Entries were judged on the level of difficulty and quality of execution.
"The ability to consistently print such high quality products indicates that American Thermoplastic Company is an expert at controlling the many variables involved in screen printing and digital printing. Winning these awards puts ATC among the top specialty printers in the world in terms of both capability and quality," Shell said.

American Thermoplastic Company received the top awards in the 2011 Binding Industries Association Product of Excellence competition in the loose-leaf products category. American Thermoplastic Company (ATC) won the Product of Excellence Award for digital printing of plastic loose-leaf products, and ATC also won the Product of Excellence Award for multi-color screen-printing in the loose-leaf products category.

The Binding Industries Association (BIA) is a trade group made up of companies involved in manufacture, binding and finishing of graphic communication products. For over 30 years, the Product of Excellence Award competition has been a showcase for the outstanding work of the member companies of the association. International in scope, the competition included over 5000 entries received from over a dozen nations. The panel of judges was made up of distinguished professionals from the graphic arts community from all over the world. Entries were judged on uniqueness of design, degree of difficulty and quality of materials and workmanship.
